Japanese deal for Vodafone
8 October 1999
Vodafone AirTouch yesterday bolstered its position as the world's biggest mobile phone company by buying the Japanese mobile interests of Cable & Wireless. It said the deal was in line of pulling out of consumer telecom and focusing on data and Internet telecom services for business. C&W recently sold its stake in UK mobile phone company One2One to Deutsche Telekom.
